Meet T and J Nursing Assistant Training School
Based in Mount Vernon, New York, T and J Nursing Assistant Training School is a career training school committed to equipping kind, capable individuals for entry-level healthcare positions. Under the direction of Viris Jane Wint, Director of School, we emphasize the hands-on, person-centered abilities that nursing assistants, home health aides and personal care aides rely on daily.
What Drives Us
Our goal is straightforward: to give each student the knowledge, confidence and compassion required to deliver safe, respectful care. People in nursing homes, hospitals and private residences count on aides for assistance with daily living, comfort and companionship. We honor that responsibility and shape our training around it.
Our Teaching Approach
Students gain knowledge through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on skills practice under supervision. Core topics usually cover:
- Resident and patient rights, privacy and dignity
- Infection control and hand hygiene
- Measuring and recording vital signs
- Bathing, grooming, dressing and toileting assistance
- Safe positioning, transfers and mobility
- Nutrition, hydration and meal assistance
- Communication with patients, families and the care team
- Recognizing and reporting changes in a patient’s condition
Who Our Students Are
Our learners range from first-time job seekers to adults pursuing a new career and working aides who need to renew their certification. With hours Monday through Saturday, 9am to 9pm, many students can train while still working or caring for family.
